So these are our super easy homemade chocolate gummies! A Chef Dom favourite and one of mine too. Made with gelatine which we’re really loving! Have you tried using it? We use Great Lakes Gelatine (the red container). It’s so easy to add to a variety of different foods for fun effects and some delicious gut healing goodness.
Gelatine is a bit of a buzz word at the moment. But it’s one of the few so called “superfoods” that actually does justify the hype and results from eating it include better looking skin, strong bones and helping immensely with your gut health generally.
In this recipe we teamed it up with raw cacao powder for the chocolate flavor (but you could use cocoa) and coconut milk and we made the mixture in a silicone mold that Dom loves – he calls them his “chocolate gingerbread men”.
So if you’re looking for a quick and easy snack for your kids that’s actually super healthy then these gummies are perfect. If you make them do please let us know how you found them by commenting below or tagging us on social media at #domskitchen and #kidslunchboxrevolution.
Ingredients:
270mls coconut milk (we use Ayam brand – this is one can)
2 Tbsp maple syrup
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 1/2 Tbsp gelatin (we use Great Lakes Gelatin – red box)
1 Tbsp raw cacao (or cocoa)
What To Do:
- Make room in your fridge for a tray of gummies and place your molds on a tray. (This makes it much easier but is not essential.)
- Combine the milk, syrup, cacao and vanilla in a pot and stir.
- Sprinkle gelatin over the mixture and immediately whisk to combine well.
- Heat over low heat for approximately 5 minutes taking care not to overheat or boil and stirring continuously until the liquid is smooth. (It should be only a luke warm temperature.)
- Remove from heat allow to cool slightly and then add to silicon molds.
- Place the tray with molds on it in the fridge for 30 minutes or until gummies are set firmly.

Hi Claire, we made these today – yummy! Where did you get your silicon moulds from?
Hi Jonelle I got them from The Home Store I think the name is and one from Stevens. Then others I got from Milly’s in Ponsonby if you’re in Auckland and one from store London. When ever I see them I pick them up as not expensive and so easy!
I don’t know how old the posts are, but found these gummy bear moulds on Grabone. http://new.grabone.co.nz/house-garden/utensils-accessories/p/two-silicone-gummy-bear-moulds. They look pretty cute and could probably match the rubbish that comes out of packets 🙂
BTW Love your health food initiative. When the kids are surrounded by rubbish food, it’s feels like pushing an unwilling elephant up Mt Everest….. Nice to have someone share the love when you’ve debated the merits of healthy eating to your 11yr old son going on 17 for the umpteenth time.
Hi Chantelle oh thanks for that. I guess it might be old by now sorry I am late seeing your comments. And thanks for the support – that’s what I’m trying to get the feeling of united movement – please send me pic of you holding up sign with #mothersonamission16 #[name your town] if you can to claire@domskitchen.co.nz. And hope to see you at one of our events if you can make it!!! Claire 🙂
Hi Claire, these look and sound so yummy, could you recommend a strawberry version please, my son’s not a great fan of chocolate. Thank you 🙂
Hi Tina. Check the recipe on our home page showing for that are yellow heart shaped Gummies I think. And we have how we made other fruit. The thing in case I forgot to say it is that you need to sieve to get rid of the pips or you can have but tastes bit gritty. Dom doesn’t mind really. Claire
Hi where can I buy these in Wellington? Thanks Gerard
Hi Gerard do you mean the molds? I’m not sure usually place like HOmestore or Stevens. But cheapest is to buy from eBay or Amazon. Claire 🙂
Could I use cows milk in place of the coconut?
Hi Chloe sorry for late reply. It might work but I think would not taste so great – but perhaps that is my bias coming out re cows milk. It’s not as thick as coconut milk or as sweet so maybe best to use cream and with cacao or something added. Let me know if you try it and how you find it!
I came across some $2 silicone ice cube molds at Kmart! Score! Cute animals like ducks and fish plus hearts snd stars 🙂
Great! They should be fine for gummies as not baking in them but just watch sometimes cheaper not good silicone for baking! 🙂
So true. Don’t want the cheap stuff when heating. Looking forward to Chch seminar 🙂
🙂
These are so declicious. My boys and I made them today and couldn’t stop eating them. Thank you so much for the recipe.
how long do these last for ? I’m going to make some for my daughters birthday party and trying to work out how far in advance I can make. thanks
