Essential oils help break up any kind of stains because they are so potent. They also help freshen the stinky area by masking the smell with their own nice scents.
The best essential oil for cleaning is lemon oil but other citrus essential oils, such as grapefruit, lime, mandarin, bergamot, etc can also be used.
Other essential oils good for cleaning are rosemary, clove, cinnamon, eucalyptus and lavender.
For this t-shirt the stain was actually 3 days old and hadn’t come out in wash. I just applied Lemon essential oil on its own then rubbed then let sit 10 minutes then washed. (See comments for results.)
Otherwise instructions I found after are: Apply the Lemon essential oil all over the stain. Immediately throw the item in the washing machine and wash. This does not work like other stain removers. You can use it on old dried out stains but the trick is to apply the Lemon essential oil right before you throw it in the washer.
A Stain Removal Recipe with Lemon Oil
2 tablespoons of Vegetable Glycerin
2 tablespoons of Castile Soap
3/4 cups of Filtered Water
10 drops of Lemon Essential Oil
250mL Glass Spray Bottle
Directions:
- Add all ingredients into the glass spray bottle.
- Place top on and shake well.
- To use, shake well and spray liberally to stain.
- Lightly rub fabric together to get remover into stain. If possible treat stain immediately with stain remover spray and allow to soak before washing in machine.
