We’re enjoying some goodies from one of our favourite companies – Cathedral Cove Naturals. This morning we’re having its Raw Paleo Super Cereal and Coconut Yoghurt. This cereal is a nutritious mix of sunflower, sesame, pumpkin and chia seeds with raw brazil, macadamia, almond and cashew nuts and shredded coconut, goji berries and coconut nectar. “Super-delicious” according to Chef Dom!

For my taste buds the Paleo Super Cereal is on the sweeter side but at under 12g sugar per 100g it’s still well on the low sugar side compared to mainstream (and many Paleo) equivalents. And (as is the case for other Paleo options like the home made granola we put up on here last week) the quality of ingredients is so much better than what you find in mainstream offerings plus, of course, you just don’t need to eat as much because the nutrient density is much higher.

In any case once mixed with Cathedral Cove’s new Coconut Yoghurt it’s the perfect blend. The coconut yoghurt is great because its not sweet at all. And the great thing is that there are no stabilisers, emulsifiers or preservatives – it’s just pure coconut cream with probiotic flavours.

Something to be aware of is that the majority of coconut products in the market – everything from the dried products (desiccated, shredded etc), milks, creams and yoghurts – have a bunch of additives in them. It seems there remains a lack of consensus as to the safety or otherwise of regular consumption of these. I’ve read enough that makes me want to avoid them so I always choose coconut milks and creams that are just that.

In the interests of full disclosure (because it’s a bug bear of mine when this is not done) we are friends of the owners of Cathedral Cove. We actually found out at Christmas that they live just down the road from us and their son is in Dom’s class at preschool! We’ve since become friends they have been more than generous with giving us samples of all their different products. But having said that I’ve always bought Cathedral Cove products and been raving about their Coconut Oil months before ever meeting them.
